About Fall of Saigon Marines Association Membership

Membership in the Fall of Saigon Marines Association is currently limited to those who served in the Marine Security Guard Battalion in Vietnam on April 29th and 30th, 1975. The Association is formed as a California non-profit benefit corporation and was organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as those terms are defined within the Internal Revenue Code.

The main goal of the association is to further the memories of Lance Corporal Darwin L. Judge and Corporal Charles McMahon Jr., the last two Marines to die in Vietnam and who were members of the Marine Security Guard Detachment assigned to the American Embassy in Saigon. To further the memories of LCpl Judge and Cpl McMahon the association maintains a website, http://www.fallofsaigon.org, where people from all walks of life can find first-hand accounts of the final days of Saigon and correspond with members of the various detachments (we also have members who were assigned to the U.S. missions in Can Tho, Bien Hoa and Da Nang). Annually we receive many enquiries from students doing research papers and members of the media requesting information on the evacuation and the final days in Vietnam from the perspective of the young Marines who were assigned to the embassy or other U.S. missions in Vietnam at the time the country fell.

The association has also made donations to the communities where LCpl Judge and Cpl McMahon were raised to help establish memorials in their honor. On April 29, 2000 a memorial service was held in Marshalltown, Iowa – the hometown of LCpl Judge – where the association planted trees in Darwin Judge Park and assumed responsibility for the funding of a new flagpole at the park that will be dedicated on April 29, 2001. A means of recognizing the sacrifice of Cpl. McMahon and his family is also being planned.

The association receives and gratefully accepts monetary donations from the public and its members to further the association’s work. All donations are tax-free and the association will provide its federal tax identification number along with a receipt and certificate acknowledging any donations. Donations to the association may be made payable to Fall of Saigon Marines Association and sent to its Treasurer, William Newell c/o Atlantic Capital Management, Inc., 851 Washington Street, Holliston, MA, 01746: Phone: 508-893-0872.
