The first event will be a military funeral with full honors at 11:00 AM at Rose Hills Cemetery in Marshalltown, IA. We are staying at the Best Western Regency Inn, which is a few blocks from the cemetery. The I & I Staff of the 24th Marines, Des Moines, IA, will provide the honor guard and the rifle detail.Due to the size of the cemetery, we request that only family, friends, and former MSG's and there families be in attendance. The Governor of Iowa and Mayor of Marshalltown will be present. Henery and Ida Judge are hosting a private luncheon after the funeral at the Hope Methodist Church for all that were at the funeral. I urge all Saigon Marines to attend this event, this is the ceremony we wanted to give 25 years ago in Saigon, nows your chance to see the families, and tell them we are thankful for their son's service.
At 2:00 PM, the main Memorial Service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Home, a 700 bed hospital, at the south lawn there the State of Iowa made a Vietnam Memorial for their dead. Governor of Iowa will be the guest speaker. The Mayor of Marshalltown, The CO, Col. Hurley and Bn SgtMajor of MSG Battalion will all be in attendance. The Colonel will present the family with a purple heart and other awards for Judge and McMahon, presented in a shadow box display. The Colonel will then present the MSG Ribbon to Saigon Marines and other MSG's in attendance.
After the ceremony, we will go to Darwin Judge Memorial Park, a city park near the Veteran's Home, and plant 2 trees, one for Judge and one for McMahon. At 6:00 PM., we have reserved a banquet room at the Best Western Regency Inn, meals will cost approximately $10.00 to $15.00 per person. I am requesting that everyone bring an old memento of Saigon pictures, uniforms, etc., so we can show the others what Saigon was like. We will be discussing forming a NonProfit Corporation to pay for our website and possible schoarships in the name of our fallen Marines.
The Best Western Regency Inn is still taking reservations, we have a block of rooms under the name "Darwin Judge Memorial", there toll free number is 1-800-241-2974.
Marshalltown, Iowa, population 25,000, is located 46 miles northeast of De Moines, Iowa and can be reached on either Interstate I-80 east of De Moines, or Interstate I-35, north of De Moines, the exits are clearly marked."
