A Proclamation

By His Excellency

Governor Argeo Paul Cellucci

Whereas, On April 29th, 1975, during the evacuation of Saigon, Corporal
Charles McMahon, Jr., MSG, US Marine Corps was killed during a mortar
attack on Tan Son Nhut Airbase, being one of the last casualties of the
Vietnam War;

Whereas, Charles McMahon, Jr. was a native son of Woburn, Massachusetts;
and

Whereas, Corporal Charles McMahon exemplified the motto of the Marine
Corps, Semper Fidelis - Always Faithful, while also representing the
best that the Commonwealth has to offer to our great nation; and

Whereas, On this Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of his sacrifice, we honor
Corporal Charles McMahon, Jr. and the thousands of men and women who
served in Southeast Asia, as well as remembering the 1,322 citizens of
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who lost their lives during that
conflict;

Now, therefore, I, Argeo Paul Cellucci, Governor Of The Commonwealth of
Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 29th, 2000, to be

CORPORAL CHARLES MCMAHON JR. DAY

and urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this
event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-fourth day of
April, in the year of our Lord two thousand, and of the Independence of
the United States of America, the two hundred and twenty-fourth.
